Our History

In early 2002, two groups of 20-somethings were sent out by the suburban churches where they had grown up, with the express purpose to experiment with new ways of ecclesia (church) in Lancaster city. These churches, Living Hope Community Church, and Weaverland Mennonite Church, continue to have relational equity and mentoring in the lives of the two groups who are now a part of ‘The Net-Lancaster’. The desire on the hearts of these young people was to see the Body of Christ lived out in their new home communities among those who did not have a church home. Many started small businesses or worked at places like Central Market, or the many retail and café establishments downtown.

In time, a few others of us who had lived and worked overseas began connecting with these two groups. While overseas, our options for church life and living were radically different than our USA church experiences. A lifestyle and worldview paradigm influenced by living among the poor, working for peace between religious groups, and encouraging other God seekers in the way of the Jesus, showed us a different way of doing “church”. Church was not something those we lived among could drive to, or join. We were experiencing what it meant to enter and live in the kingdom of God in community with others who were seeking to express a culturally relevant Jesus to those who don't know or follow Him.

Yet, another group of people soon found themselves a part of The Net-Lancaster. They included those passing through on their way to live life in other cultures but were in the area for further education or training before continuing their journey. Their presence with us has helped us see beyond our daily surroundings to consider our part in being a blessing to the nations of our world.

So, we started studying scripture together and discussing new ideas of church life, and what it means to be Christ followers in His Kingdom. The Net-Lancaster was formed in 2007 as a way of giving greater definition to our relationship as an already functioning network of those in Lancaster who are committed to Jesus and His Kingdom values. Our desire is to live authentic lives every day, loving God and loving others
